The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have developed a quarantine and isolation calculator to help determine how long you need to isolate, quarantine, or what other steps you need take to prevent spreading COVID-19.
The calculator is designed for individuals who have been in close contact with someone with COVID-19 or have tested positive for COVID-19. Close contact means being less than 6 feet away from someone with COVID-19 for a total of 15 minutes or more over 24 hours, regardless of whether the person was wearing a mask properly (excluding K-12 school settings).
The guidance provided does not apply to people who are moderately or severely ill or immunocompromised. Moderately ill means experiencing symptoms that affect the lungs like shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, and severely ill means requiring hospitalization, intensive care, or ventilation support. Please talk to your healthcare provider about when you can end isolation if you are moderately or severely ill or immunocompromised.
This tool does not apply to cases and close contacts identified in certain settings. For information about isolation and quarantine in high-risk congregate settings and healthcare settings refer to the COVID-19 Quarantine and Isolation Guidelines which can be found here (https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/your-health/quarantine-isolation.html#anchor_1641318078836). Parents and caregivers with children in K-12 schools or early care and education (ECE) programs should consult the program administrator for specific isolation and quarantine guidance in their school or ECE setting.
